What are Forging Quality Ingots?

Forging quality ingots are semi-finished stainless steel products cast in static moulds using a bottom-pour process. In this process, molten steel enters the mould from the bottom, helping control turbulence during filling and supporting consistent internal quality. The ingots are designed as starting material for open-die and closed-die forging, where internal material quality is important for the performance of the finished component.

Applications of Forging Quality Ingots

Stainless steel forging quality ingots are used as semi-finished starting material for downstream hot-working and component manufacturing processes. For finished forged bars, view our Forged Round Bars page.

Typical applications include:

  • Open-die forging
  • Closed-die forging
  • Ring rolling
  • Re-rolling into bars and sections
  • Flanges and fittings
  • Shafts and mechanical components
  • Industrial equipment and components

For finished stainless steel forged bars, visit our Forged Round Bars page.

Supply conditions of Stainless Steel Ingots

  • As-cast: Ingots are supplied directly from the casting process without additional surface grinding. This condition can be suitable for forging and other downstream processes where the surface will be removed or further processed.
  • Spot-ground: Selected areas of the ingot surface are ground to remove localized surface irregularities where required for specific downstream processing requirements.

Quality & Testing of Forging Quality Ingots

Maruti Inox maintains quality control from incoming raw material inspection through production and final testing. Its testing infrastructure includes chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, NDT and surface-related testing capabilities, including spectroscope/PMI, UTM, hardness, impact, grain microscopy, ultrasonic testing, MPI, LPT and surface roughness testing.

Every supply is accompanied by an official Maruti Inox Test Certificate, providing material information required for verification and traceability

Why Source Forging Quality Ingots from Maruti Inox?

Maruti Inox produces stainless steel forging quality ingots at its facility in Mehsana, Gujarat, with controlled melting and bottom-pour casting processes. Every ingot supply is issued with a Material Test Certificate (MTC) confirming chemical composition and mechanical properties, supporting material verification and traceability.

Ingots are produced under a TÜV SÜD ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system and are available in multiple stainless steel grades. Contact our team to confirm grade availability and specifications for your specific forging or downstream processing requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Forging quality stainless steel ingots are semi-finished stainless steel products used as starting material for forging and other downstream hot-working processes. They can be further processed into components such as forged bars, shafts, flanges, rings and other industrial parts.

Forging quality ingots are used as starting material for open-die forging, closed-die forging, ring rolling, re-rolling and other downstream manufacturing processes. The appropriate ingot specification depends on the required finished component and processing method.

Stainless steel forging quality ingots are produced by melting and refining stainless steel followed by bottom-pour casting into static moulds. After solidification, the ingots are inspected and tested before being supplied for downstream processing.

Ingot quality is important because the ingot undergoes significant deformation during forging. Chemical composition, internal quality, dimensions and material consistency can influence the downstream forging process and the quality of the finished component.

The right ingot should be selected based on the stainless steel grade, ingot size and weight, forging process, finished component dimensions and required material properties. Testing and documentation requirements should also be confirmed before ordering.

As-cast ingots are supplied directly from the casting process without additional surface grinding, while spot-ground ingots have selected surface areas ground to remove localized irregularities. The suitable condition depends on the customer's downstream forging or processing requirements.
